"Theodora was a circus artist who became empress, like Chanel, who was a little singer and became a fashion empress."
Before changing his mind and setting for Rue Cambon couture salons, Karl Lagerfeld opted to host this year's Paris and Byzance themed Chanel Pre-Fall 2011 show in Istanbul. The final setting was transformed immaculately with the presence of pillows and stained glass tables, an atmosphere that spelled intimate. Some heavily embellished pieces from twenty-thousand ($) upwards, showed the immense abilities of Chanel's couture ateliers.
Pre-Fall 2011 is a combination of Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel's Byzantine cross-adorned cuffs (Gripoix) and the Byzantine empress Theodora. The Result? Clothes, very classic Chanel with Byzantine influences. It's appropriately regal and bold in colour, yet retains the classic Chanel overtones and looks very wearable. Gold touches complement each outfit, with embellished sandals or boot-like footwear with brooch-like attachment.
